About Us:
My NHS experience includes working in Southampton General Hospital on Acute stroke unit and Neurological in/out patients units. I also worked in 2 NHS trusts in Devon, on mental health/neurological wards, where I set up a regular physiotherapy service on Huntington chorea unit in Plymouth, quite revolutionary at the time. I worked at a senior level in Totnes Community Hospital, covering wide range of neurological conditions, rapid response service and setting up a Falls prevention group for the local area.
I have experience in research, having been involved in 3 major research trials at the University of Southampton: Promoting independent transfers in clients with Parkinson’s disease, Neurostep device testing with stroke survivors and the ATEAM trial, which showed significantly positive results in a long term decrease of low back pain in clients who were offered Alexander technique lessons.
To balance my work and family life I moved to private practice in 2012. I was employed as a senior neurophysiotherapist, providing highly specialized service to clients with long term neurological conditions on dry land, but also in a hydrotherapy pool. I was also involved in medico-legal work and in multidisciplinary teams and meetings.
I qualified as an Alexander technique teacher in 2006 and set up my own teaching practice in Southampton. I teach 121 lessons, I run group sessions, give talks to local special interest groups. I am currently a senior visiting teacher at the Devon school of Alexander technique.
In February 2016, together with my colleague Jane Olive, we set up Physiotherapy-to-your-home, offering our skills and knowledge to the 60+ population (but not exclusively) of Ringwood and the surrounding area.
I live in Southampton with my 2 amazing children and my partner. I enjoy sailing, climbing, canoeing and paddle boarding and I am a great fan of yoga, meditation and mindfulness.
Jane ignited the spark to set up Physiotherapy-to-your-home in 2016.
Sadly, Jane passed away on 14th February 2018 after a brave battle with cancer. She will always be remembered by those who knew her.
